Stay Strange

I left a friend a voice memo the other day and ended it by saying I was going to watch a video on parasites before going to bed. I wish I'd saved her response, but it went something like, "That was the funniest thing I've heard in a while. Couldn't just watch some Netflix show, or a classic Hallmark like a normal person, eh?"

Let me explain. I gifted myself the @drcharliedc_2.0 membership for Christmas, and as a result I'm a student again (and loving it). It just so happens he posts brilliant videos about things like autoimmunity, bladder congestion, autism, parasites, vaccines, and how all these things affect our overall health. Conventional medicine hasn't served me well over the last couple decades, so I decided this year I'd be investing in my health in new ways that are more empowering and aligned with where I'm at. As a result I've been nerding-out on his membership videos…

Forget parasites though, that's not the point. HABITS are the point. The reason I'm even sharing is because I woke up the next morning laughing at her memo, laughing at me. Upon further reflection it occurred to me that it was a good example of an uncommon choice/rhythm of someone choosing a less travelled road... 1) taking ownership for their own health, 2) choosing education over entertainment, 3) choosing to stay in instead of go out, 4) choosing investing instead of consuming, etc.

It reminded me that people who get to the places we want to be, take roads that aren't generally taken by the status quo. They often take strange, rocky, uncertain, risky, sacrificial roads to reach their goals and achieve their dreams. I want to hit a new level of physical health, so I'm going to learn about dysbiosis and biofilms :) Gross maybe, but worth it.

I bet the more strange and misfit we feel, act, and are perceived by the majority, the closer we actually are to getting it right in this life. To those of you with uncommon habits, routines, and rituals that move you forward on your desired path, I salute you. Get, and stay, strange.

Share below any habits that have set you apart and served you well on your journey!
