Love Knits

learn. teach. serve.

Equip yourself. Empower others. Bless all.

Vision

Knitting is the excuse, love is the reason.

It’s that simple! Use this timeless skill and past time to create beautiful things, cultivate community, and love people in a meaningful way.

Love Knits is a name I gave to a little movement in my heart and world over fifteen years ago, but it’s here for the taking for anyone who wants to facilitate times of connection centred around teaching and serving for those in their midst.

More than ever we need real human connection, doing real things, with real people. What could be easier than turning the kettle on, lighting a candle, choosing an inviting playlist, and throwing the invite out to friends, neighbours, and strangers? Or showing up to your favourite coffee shop with a bag of donated yarn and hooks provided by those who support your vision?

The Love Knits seed has taken root and grown into fruit that has touched the lives of thousands around the world in orphanages, schools, hospitals, churches, camps, and beyond. How could you see it taking root where you are?

Are you inspired? If so, dream something up where you’re planted and launch a Love Knits night or coffee hour! If you’re on Instagram be sure to tag #loveknits and @sowingtomorrow and I’ll be sure to re-post and spread the good word.

History

Love Knits was born in 2007 after a blindsiding blow to my life plans that left me in unable to see too far down the road. I was lower than I’d ever been and recall a desperate conversation with God that went something like, “I’ll use whatever I have, no matter how small, and use it to make people and the world better in the name of love, I just need purpose.” Not long after I must have been looking down at my crochet hook because at some point I’m convinced I heard, “That’s it. Use it.” And so I did.

My oma taught me to knit when I was seven, and I learned to crochet when I was nineteen. Yarn and creating with my hands has played a role in my life as far back as I can remember…

Over the years Love Knits has been more of an excuse to connect people and teach practical skills than anything else. It’s evolved in such beautiful ways because there’s no one way to do it. Just have a heart for people and creating, and get to it! A major highlight has been hearing about how people have brought this mission to their unique corner of the world, and I look forward to hearing about how you brought it to life where you are!
