Love Carries
Last weekend as my friend was in the midst of running towards his 100 mile goal, something unexpected happened. Another friend showed up unannounced, from two hours away. Nobody knew he was coming. He just showed up at 1am to carry the runner through the night, past the 100k mark. He ran a full marathon by his side and exited at sunrise before crowds showed up for the finish.
It’s one recent example in a string of examples in my world of 'love that carries'. I'm surrounded by this strong, quiet, selfless love that shows up, lifts, and carries, expecting nothing. The kind of love that ends up healing, serving, launching, carrying, and blessing people in immeasurable ways. The kind of love that doesn’t feel extravagant from the giver’s end, necessarily, but once it’s given multiplies exponentially for the receiver…
My brother's family grew into a farm this year, and his best friend recently showed up like a wrecking-ball on site. He was fresh muscle and energy on a tired property and leaned into some major farm chores that re-infused all of us with dwindled energy to pick it back up and keep going.
Love carries.
My brother's family is letting Romi and I share space with them at this magic kingdom (farm), letting me join in the work and play while slowing my pace enough to pivot, recalibrate, and reenvision my future.
Love carries.
This weekend my nephew agreed to help my sister chop trees, haul logs, and split wood. On his time off from a physically demanding job, he chose to lift up his aunt and uncle who are currently juggling two beautiful humans under age two.
Love carries.
The black mirrors in our pockets can make it easy to think that the world is void of any love and good at all, but the opposite is true. It’s brimming with it!
Toss your TV and limit your social feeds. Free your heart up to count your blessings regularly, and realize they’re everywhere. If they’re not, in abundance, stir them up in your midst by finding ways to BE a love that carries right now. Trust the law of cause and effect. Love multiplies. It can be as simple as a smile, or as invested as running the graveyard shift. It all counts.
Be a love that carries.
